There are two ways to design your fence location. The safest way is to install your fence completely around the pool so the only reason to even touch this fence is to use the pool. NOTHING is safer than this design. Creating an ISOLATION BARRIER is the best installation to prevent your children from gaining access to the pool area.

When installing this fence we recommend that you keep your fence a MINIMUM of twenty-four inches away from the edge of the pool. Our customers usually use the pool while the fence is in place. You need to have 24 inches in order to be able to get out of the pool with the fence installed. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! 30 inches and 36 inches are preferred fence distance from your pool edge provided you have enough space to walk on both sides of the fence. We don't usually recommend more that 36" from the edge of the pool, because you are taking away to much play area from your children and we know that your children need all the play space you can give them.
 

If you're not going to create an ISOLATION BARRIER around your pool, you are constructing a "pass thru" barrier. You need to look at your backyard traffic patterns and try to install this fence in areas that don't require opening and closing the fence on a continuous basis. Constantly having to open and close this fence could cause someone to leave it open or not connect the fence sections together properly, leaving your safety barrier compromised. Both ends of your fence on a "pass thru" barrier installation must be connected to a structure so that your children cannot circumvent the fence and get to the pool. Side yard gates and windows SHOULD BE PROTECTED. All doors from the house to the pool area MUST BE PROTECTED. Assume that your child will try to get around the fence. Children have no fear and are attracted to the water. They also don't know better. DON'T TRUST YOUR CHILDREN to do the right thing. You need to put this fence in the safest location possible in your backyard.

Installing this barrier in the lawn can also create problems with yard maintenance. Mowing the lawn could require you to remove the fence. Lawn mowers and weed wackers can and will shred the fence. This kind of damage is not covered under your LIFETIME warranty.
 

The easiest way to measure for your fence if it's not going in a straight line is to do it with a ball of string. Lay out the string where you plan your installation and then measure the string. If you have steps your installing on, measure each fence level separately. Our fence is provided in 12 foot sections. You can custom order your fence in shorter sections but we only offer the Child Guard fence with pole spacing of 36". Your fence installation instructions will explain how to shorten your fence section if you need less than 36" pole spacing. Shorter sections less than 12 feet can be customized and will be surcharged $1.00 per foot. Custom sections cannot be returned. Custom sections will be made with 36" pole spacing ONLY. ( Example; 3 feet, 6 feet or 9 feet.) .
